October is National Book Month

The power of reading is an invaluable privilege and reward. A book can transport you to places you have never been to and gives you experiences you never imagined. As we celebrate authors and readers everywhere, we want to incorporate reading activities through field trips to the library, a bookstore, book clubs, reading groups, reading to a child, or encouraging them to pick up a book and start reading.

To read is to understand and interpret the written word. National Read Aloud Day is October 22, 2011. Check out this extensive Recommended Reading List courtesy of The National Book Foundation. So, pick up a good book today and read to your heart’s content. In the United States of America, we have the freedom to read whenever we would like to. We have countless resources on where to get our books and the formats we desire to read them in, whether hard copy or digital.

Let’s not take this freedom for granted, but to take advantage of this opportunity. Read copiously and read because you can!
