“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.”
– James 1:26 (NKJV)
I thoroughly enjoyed the original Batman TV series staring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin that ran from 1966-1968. They battled super-criminals like Catwoman, The Penguin and The Joker. That series was one of my favorite TV shows growing up. In episodes where Batman and Robin would get into some sticky situations perpetuated by these villains in Gotham City, I would always find humor when Robin would say something like, “Holy Sticky Situation Batman!”
Recently, I am finding increased cases of pure uncensored hatred, spewing out of the mouths of people I never would have imagined could say such dehumanizing and repulsive things. Especially in light of the recent DNC events in Charlotte, North Carolina I never would have believed that such detestable language would pour from the mouths of people who claim to be Christians.
Undoubtedly, everyone has their opinions and beliefs about what needs to be fixed in every sector of our society, and that is the beauty about being in a country that is not a dictatorship, but governs as a democracy. I find it truly amazing that people tend to either forget, ignore or altar historical facts and events for their personal gain. It is so unfortunate that I am witnessing evidence in this day and time, how divisive and extreme certain groups will go to voice their opinions. Yet, out of the mouths of some of these “self-proclaimed good and righteous people,” they have the audacity to talk about what a shame and disgrace terrorists are, when they apparently don’t or won’t recognize that their thinking, behavior and speech are indicative of the same type of extreme ingredients that they preach against.
Gotham City’s super-criminals couldn’t hold a match to many of the atrocities that I see reported on the news, online and in the newspapers on a daily basis. People are not seeking truth, but satisfaction to their itchy ears. We are being indoctrinated with mind, body and spiritual influences that will ultimately destroy us, if we do not seek common ground to work together, instead of trying to force feed an agenda that only works for some and not for all. Where is the fairness in saying that people have the right to the American dream, regardless of race, creed or culture, but witness an ongoing imbalanced scale of undercutting those who help to keep our country running?
We are individually cut and operate differently, but we fit into this massive “bigger than life” puzzle that we must contribute to collectively, as opposed to working against the grain. If we continue to be extremely divisive, and do not find common ground to head down the road of progress together, we will ultimately find our country portraying the battlefields that we see across the seas, and eventually succumb to a country of desolation instead of a united forefront. Thus, I could imagine Robin saying to Batman in 2012, “Holy Hatred Batman” while looking at each other trying to figure out how to destroy this mega-super-villain that continues to try to amend the USA, into the Un-United States of America!
“But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.”
