Library Lovers Month Is An Ideal Reminder To Rediscover Your Local Library

When was the last time you visited your local library? Although much of the norm for doing research nowadays has evolved into using your most preferred method of online search, whether it’s through Google, Bing, Yahoo, AOL or another searching tool, libraries are far from becoming extinct. Traditional libraries collect large volumes of diversified books, periodicals, resources and other reference indexes. February is Library Lover’s Month, which celebrates libraries of all types.

The nostalgia of this institution continues to be a catalyst of educational support and research for schoolchildren, teachers, parents and other professionals. They offer a quiet escape and sanctuary for those who want to study, research or simply read without interruption. As a result of the computerized upgrades within the library environment, public, school and university facilities are modernized to retrieve information rapidly. Libraries embody an academic culture that is recognized for their value and significance in our schools, public and private sectors.

Libraries are important because they are part of the historical cornerstone in our society. Archives are maintained in immaculate condition like a piece of fine art in a museum. There are some things and experiences that the internet does not offer over libraries. There is a calculated consensus that most people are choosing eBooks over hardcover or paperbacks, but the populous still want that library experience to be able to check out a book to read it. Libraries are also cost-effective because every household does not have a computer or other digital device for searching the web for information. Librarians, although they may be perceived as villains for penalizing the borrower for a lost or late returned book, offer free expertise and loaner time to check out books, DVD’s, digital media, audiobooks, librettos, CD’s, periodicals, VHS and other items. Access to special collections, catalogues, reserved films and even wireless laptops may be borrowed, but used in the library only.

Card catalogues were the iconic accessory search piece in a library’s environment. According to the Copyright Card Catalog and the Online Files of the Copyright Office, cards in the card catalog contained five key elements:

1. Title of the work

2. Author or authors

3. The owner of the copyright who may be different from the author

4. The date of publication

5. The registration number

The acquisition of knowledge at a community-meeting place is the experience you get from visiting your local library. Library Lovers Month is a great time to rediscover the essence of why libraries are important and far from becoming obsolete.
