PRLog (Press Release) – Mar. 18, 2014 – CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center in Indian Trail, North Carolina will host “My Favorite Poet-in-Motion” celebrating National Poetry Month on Saturday April 5, 2014. Michael Alvarez, Mayor of Indian Trail, North Carolina will present a Proclamation from the town, recognizing April as National Poetry Month to Kym Gordon Moore, author of Wings of the Wind: A Cornucopia of Poetry and the Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center. Mayor Alvarez will also make an official presentation of the proclamation at the town’s council meeting later that week.

National Poetry Month, was inaugurated in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. National Poetry Month is celebrated every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. Thousands of individuals and organizations will participate in this annual event through poetry readings, festivals, book displays, workshops and other poetry related events. To read more about National Poetry Month go to http://www.poets.org/.

Participants attending the “My Favorite Poet-in-Motion”event will have the opportunity to honor and share a poem written by their favorite poet, whether it’s from William Shakespeare, Maya Angelou, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe or Langston Hughes. Typically, poetry readings at the Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center invite the community to join the group for refreshments and a night of reading poetry with poems they composed or a favorite poetic expression they would like to share. This event will integrate artistic mediums expressed through personal interpretations of poems with music and paintings, as they’re being read. To honor some famous poets of our time, participants can write a poem dedicated to their favorite poet, perform a poetic musical interlude while reading one of their poems or perhaps take it to another level by dressing in character as their favorite poet.

Persons interested in participating in this poetry event may contact Susan Didier, Community Development Specialist at 704-821-2541 or email her at sdidier@admin.indiantrail.org for more details. Local poet, Kym Gordon Moore will moderate this F-R-E-E poetry event. Light refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given away. The event is from 6:30pm – 8:30pm, on Saturday April 5, 2014.
