Let the World Cup Games Begin!

Well it’s here…the 2014 World Cup begins today. This quadrennial tournament kicks off in Brazil and will feature teams from 32 nations totaling 64 games. This is the second time since 1950 that Brazil has hosted the games. Aptly called “football” this soccer tournament is quite different from football as we know in the United States.

FIFA, Fédération Internationale de Football Association or in English the International Federation of Football Association has a membership that comprises of 209 national association. It is the international governing body of association football, beach soccer and futsal (a variation of association football played on a smaller field and primarily indoors). Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, the organization is responsible for football’s major international tournaments, including the most famously recognized World Cup!
