How do you matter and make a difference to those who could use positive motivation and influence? Throughout the month of January we commemorate National Mentoring Month. National Mentoring Month (NMM) was created by the Harvard School of Public Health and MENTOR. Individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities and nonprofits can work together to increase the number of mentors and assure brighter futures for our young people.
In a press release dated December 22, 2010, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation designating January 2011 as National Mentoring Month. He stated, “Across our Nation, mentors steer our youth through challenging times and support their journey into adulthood.” http://www.nationalmentoringmonth.org/news_events/pressreleases/proclamation2011/.
Opportunities are plentiful for becoming a mentor. There is no shortage of young people who could truly use your support, through your gifts and talents. Although we observe mentoring on a national scale during the month of January, let this be a jumpstart to the rest of the year and years to come, where you can make a difference in your community, state and nation by making a difference in the life of a young person!
