The evening of Valentine’s Day, at the Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center was definitely filled with the power of love! The audience was engaged in poetic deliveries of love through music, live artistic renditions on canvas and word games surrounding the theme of Valentine’s Day. Attendees ranged in ages from infants to grandparents, with a kaleidoscope of cultural diversity represented. The room was beautifully decorated with a “HEART-felt” theme.

Susan Didier, Community Development Specialist for the Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center stated, “Such a terrific reading tonight. Forty people came out with “The Power of Love” to celebrate Valentine’s Day! A HUGE thanks to all who read! We received rave reviews from our audience and press. Can’t wait to hear more of your amazing poems!”

Digital artist Erin Penland and comic artist Mark Hassler painted their renditions on canvas inspired by the vibes they felt from the power of poetry readings. The atmosphere was fun, festive and presented in a distinctive way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with family and friends. Poets who read, performed or sang their poems were Bailey Workman, Brian Bacik, Dwight Roth, Sarah Klapprodt, Kyla McKenzie, Norman J. Bartee, Dr. Roger Fish and Juan Carlos Gonzalez. Members of our poetry group who were unable to attend open mic, but sent their poems to be read were Christian George (read by Kym Gordon Moore) and Michael Faulkenberry (read by Susan Didier).

Juan Carlos Gonzalez, one of our local newspaper reporters who came to cover our event was so moved and inspired that he shared a couple of his favorite poems with the audience. Oversized Valentine’s Day word games were placed at different locations in the room, for the audience to engage in. Prizes were given to those who participated in the Valentine’s Day games. A spread of hors d’ oeuvres and beverages were available for everyone to enjoy. The food was topped off with delicious, decadent Valentine’s Day cupcakes, donated by Cassandra Tindell, owner of Mainely Cupcakes. These melt in your mouth treats definitely left everyone experiencing “A Tasteful Delight in Every Bite!” For more information about Mainly Cupcakes, please visit their website and connect with them through social media. http://mainelycupcakes.com
