How many ways do you show support for our military personnel and veterans? Sometimes, we get so caught up in our day-to-day routine, and forget to celebrate America’s Warriors of Freedom, as we should. This month we observe National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) and embrace the diversity of America’s armed forces and the rich history that we honor for our current, and former members of the United States Armed Forces.
Saturday May 16th is Armed Forces Day and the 2015 theme is “Honor Those Who Answered the Call to Serve.” This day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in May. Monday, May 25th is Memorial Day. This federal holiday commemorated on the last Monday in May is a day of remembrance for the men and women who died during their active military service.
Our world is in a volatile state, where no one is immune to the danger of war and terrorism. For those who are committed to defending our country, here and abroad, it behooves us to show our continued gratitude and support to those in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. According to the history of National Military Appreciation Month:
Senator John McCain introduced legislation to designate the month of May, National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) in 1999. Both the Senate and House of Representatives adopted resolutions calling for Americans to recognize and honor U.S. Service Members during NMAM. These proclamations also urge the President to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe NMAM.
