Flying High During Poetry Open Mic

Poetry Open Mic, Aviation, Flying, Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center

What a  high-flying poetic blast of energy the 40 attendees had, during the Up, Up & Away Poetry Open Mic reading, held at the Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center, on Saturday evening. The poetry prompt theme, which included all forms of flight brought out a diverse collection of poems written by the performing poets and a few works written by others. After the themed poems were read, many shared poetry that held special meaning to their hearts.

Poetry readings and interpretations were done through verse, music and art. Our three featured artists for the evening were Erin Penland, Mark Hassler and Dwight Roth (who also wrote a poem for the reading). Jennifer Nicks and her daughter Abigail Kepler gave a couple of poetic musical performances, during the evening’s event.

Here are a few highlights from the evening.

We were so delighted to have Cathy’s Coffee sponsor the evening’s reading, with delicious coffee and fresh baked special treats for the audience. During National Poetry Month in April, Cathy Shumway, owner of Cathy’s Coffee gave away free poems to her customers, supplied by the Indian Trail Cultural Arts Center Poetry group.
