Did you know that the first Selfie Museum built in the Philippines just celebrated its first anniversary on Sunday? I had no idea that the Philippines, crowned “the selfie capital of the world” in 2015 is embracing digital self-portraiture. This interactive “Art in Island Museum” is dedicated to snapping art selfies, opened in the nation’s capital of Manila.

Visitors to the museum are encouraged to take pictures of themselves with 3D replicas of some well-known famous works of art. The museum is split into ten zones encompassing topics like animal kingdom, religion and fantasy. Visitors are prohibited from wearing shoes in the museum, but are required to put slippers on to protect the 3D paintings.

This is such a cool and relevant idea to merge the historical aspects of art and history, by interacting with the mobile users love of taking a selfie. If you are in the Philippines, be sure to check out this modern-day art museum, starring YOU! This innovative installation is definitely a conversation piece that is resonating around the world.
