Free Comic Book Day? Yep, would you believe that this day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of May? This special event happens on Saturday, May 7, 2016. The North American Comic Book industry helps to bring new readers into independent comic book stores with this exciting promotion. This event started in 2002 and is coordinated by Diamond Comic Distributors, the industry’s single large distributor. Joe Field of Flying Colors Comics, located in Concord, California brainstormed the event in his “Big Picture” column appearing in the August 2001 issue of Comics & Games Retailer magazine.
Publishers produce special edition comics geared to attracting new non-comic readers, to call back former comic book readers, to thank current comic book buyers for their support and to introduce everyone to the joys of reading comics. You will find a wide diversity of comics available from traditional comics to superheroes, to manga, as well as work from independent publishers.
If your brick and mortar or online comic book store is participating in Free Comic Book Day, please share your link to your event.
