National Cherry Popsicle Day on Food Porn Friday

26 Aug

Popsicle, National Cherry Popsicle Day, From Behind the Pen

Popsicle lovers across America, today is National Cherry Popsicle Day. As we celebrate Food Porn Friday don’t forget August 26 is the annual celebration of this refreshing summertime treat.

Did you know that in 1905 an 11-year old named Frank Epperson accidentally created this frozen pop? That’s right accidentally and by an 11-year old kid! When Frank left his mixture of powdered soda and water in a cup, with a stirring stick in the mix outside overnight, he woke up the next morning to find that his concoction was frozen when the temperatures dipped overnight. His discovery was a frozen and refreshingly tasty treat. Although today we celebrate the cherry popsicle, be sure to check out the other great frozen treats on a stick from Popsicle®. It’s for the kid in all of us!

“Fun Fact”
Did you know that the cherry-flavored popsicle is named Ace? Ace is handsome, athletic and wears sunglasses at night! That’s one cool dude-sicle!

OOOOOH, I loved cherry popsicles when I was a kid! Used to save the coupons on the back of that sticky wrapper to send off and get prizes.
