Poetry has never been the language of barriers, it’s always been the language of bridges. –Amanda Gorman
Amanda Gorman was named the first National Youth Poet Laureate in 2017. Reciting poetry provided her with her greatest strength β her voice. Poetry served as a form of speech pathology, and through lots of practice, she overcame her speech impediment. Amanda read her poem βThe Hill We Climbβ at the inauguration of President Joe Biden on January 20, 2021, and is the youngest poet to read at a presidential inauguration in United States history. She is a cum laude graduate of Harvard University, where she studied Sociology. Her twin sister, Gabrielle Gorman is a film writer, producer, director, and activist.
What a double dose of power-packed talent their mother Joan Wicks must be proud of.

Black excellence personified. Letβs build a collective protective edge around Amanda to see her vision to be the POTUS a reality. #BlackGirlMagic

Dawn, I am so proud of Amanda and her sister. They are indeed “EXCELLENCE” personified. She suffered from a speech impediment and overcame it with poetry. She displays amazing resilience, even at a young age. She is a testament to doing her best and being her best that reaches so many others, regardless of race, age, creed or color. To Amanda! πΈπ₯πΉ
