Another Cycle of Change

As the seasons change, do we? Do we make the necessary adjustments to adapt to the newness of a new time? Or do we simply exist, oblivious to the need to make the changes that need to be made? It’s interesting when I originally penned the following poem on my blog in 2017, the season’s temperatures were practically the same as it is now. While we have cool temperatures during the day and frost-filled temperatures in the early morning hours, a few trees still have some leaves on their branches that simply linger. Here’s a poetic blast from the past to serenade my morning’s queries.

Autumn Wanes to Winter

To everything, there is a season, so we wait
in the wand of autumns unfurling show
its spectacular brilliance of colors transform
bursting forth with the cycle of change

it wanes into the looming lips of winter
falling leaves cascade like crystal snowflakes
branches once dense now a skeleton of delay
where the tree neither dies nor falters

but it rests for the new journey ahead
an unseen formation of energy kindling within
as the soul of the tree kisses each cycle of life
amid the chill, it waits, transforms, and flourishes.

So, Wednesday, December 21, 2022, marks the official first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere by the winter solstice and ends Monday, March 20, 2023. During this seasonal period, what are we going to do to prepare for the next changing of the seasonal guards when spring glides forward? Are we going to hibernate or coruscate? The cycle of change will not stop. Will we?

  1. Another season? When will it ever end?! Oh, wait. More is better, yes – seasons are good. Hahaha. Thanks for sharing your wonderful post, including your earlier poem, dear Kym. 🍯😘 Indeed, time marches on unabated. And, thanks to you, so does my education: a new word for me, “coruscate”. Enjoy this its-still-Autumn day & thank you! πŸ‚πŸβ³β„οΈβ›„

  2. Awww, thanks a million for that. πŸ€— I continue to look at a couple of trees to the back of our yard and see that they won’t relinquish it’s brown leaves, as all of the surrounding trees with the exception of the pine trees are barren. πŸπŸŒ³πŸ‚ Go figure right? Thanks so much for your kind comment my friend. Enjoy your day! πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€©
