As I celebrate National Poetry Month and National Library Week with the student body, faculty, and staff of Johnson C. Smith University, I am so very proud, humbled, and honored to be the guest speaker for this very special Poetry Reading Event. This, my friends, is such a huge opportunity for me, and somehow, I know it may be hard to believe, but at this moment as a writer, it’s hard to find the words to define the level of excitement I feel right now.

In the words of the Pointer Sisters, “I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it. I’m about to lose control and I think I like it oh yeah!” Stay tuned for scenes from this historical event.
