Inhale Mindfulness, Exhale MindFULLness

At one point during my past job interviewing process, I would cringe when I talked about my multitasking capabilities because that really wasn’t my strong suit. Oh, I could do a lot like chew gum and talk on the phone at the same time while walking, but one day while driving on my way out of town on a business trip, I would have been in a serious car accident had I not snapped out of it. What made me snap out of my stupor? The sudden sight of a cross staked in a makeshift memorial on the median of the highway. I’m sure you understand what that meant.

Oh, how our mind wanders, when our senses drift into a land of what isn’t instead of to a place where 100% of our time should be embracing the present moment. We talk about this all the time, yet so little changes. So, are we basking in mindfulness or mindFULLness? All too often we don’t realize how we’ve drifted into a state of trying to do so much at one time and not accomplishing as much as we think.

Being aware of and attentive to the present moment, with patience, openness, and acceptance is to be mindful. It is the art of “single-tasking.” Tapping into our senses and absorbing our surroundings as we push the pause button of racing thoughts in our head, creates the mindfulness that calms the anxiety building up in our brain like an exploding time bomb.

We can’t concentrate when our brain is busy thinking about too many things at one time, and our mind is overwhelmed by distractions with too much bouncing around in our heads. We are off the rails and bound in an exhausting world of mindFULLness (trying to unsuccessfully multitask). Being mindFULL is like being in a minefield. Frustration rises and our temperament becomes inflamed and short. MindFULLness follows us when we should be sleeping and our minds need to be at rest. Instead, anxiety and stress increase, filling our nights with restlessness and spiritual torments. How terrorizing!

When our mind is shackled by clutter clogging our way of singularly focusing and thinking about what’s happening in our present moment, we have to throw out and mute the background noise that is deafening our hearing and diming our sight. Just remember, we are not a robot. We are human beings. Sensibility is our ability to perceive or feel, while a robot cannot do that. In our stress-induced moments when everything seems to be out-of-control, what are we singlehandedly focusing on, or what is stripping our sensitivity away?

  1. Kym you are so right. What a great play on words, with so much wisdom in that one switch of typing. I am often guilty of too much mindFULLness and missing out on the present. Thanks for the reminder. Maggie

  2. Wonderful post, Miz Kym. If I’m walking or riding my stationary bike, I find time passes more quickly if I’m planning something else or even day dreaming than staying in the moment. Otherwise I support the value of mindfulness. Especially while driving. πŸ€”πŸ˜―πŸ€―

  3. Whaou Kym! This is such a nice eye-opener! Indeed we are too often doing too many things and forgetting easily what counts and what matters, our thoughts taking us one way and another.

Thanks for sharing your view, really enjoyed it!! 🩷

Everyday we are facing many things and if let the stress increase, we can have more negative things
and need to vibe, think and feel in positive. Inhale and exhale… Cheers!
Have a loely, blessing, relaxing evening! Abrazote mi amiga!

  7. Maggie my friend, you aren’t the only one whose mind drifts into a state of FULLness. No wonder we feel stressed and anxious at times. This is why when we step away, we have to STEP away. I think you have the ingredients and that is evident through your posts my dear. Stay present! πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ€—

  8. OMG Miz Pat, I get you. When I am walking on my treadmill when not outside, my mind drifts and then I don’t realize I have walked more than I thought I had. At times, for me, that is a good thing! LOL πŸ˜πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ€£ Now driving on the other hand, well…you know! πŸš—

  9. I appreciate that Marie, and thanks so much my friend. Yes honey, it seems like it’s hard to focus on one thing at a time these days. No wonder how absentminded we can be when it comes down to the important things that matter as you noted when our brain is cluttered. Stay focused my friend! πŸ˜πŸ™†πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜œ

  10. Say it again and say it loud Mary! FOCUS can be so elusive at times when we are trying to operate life like an octopus with more than 8 appendages! πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ™πŸ˜² UGH! >FOCUS< 😜

  11. Don’t want no accident. We were rear-ended a few years ago while being stopped third in line behind someone who wanted to make a left into a gas station and convenience store very popular with the lunch crowd. A teenager on a cellphone was paying more attention on how to get there also for lunch without paying attention to stopped traffic in front of here. This was towards the end of COVID when new cars were hard to buy. She ended up totalling our car. Fortunately we had another car and were able buy another one relatively soon. Wish she had remained mindful.

  14. UGH Pat. I get so irritated when I am even on the interstate and pass someone driving 45 in the left-hand lane in a 70 MPH zone and once I pass them I give them that look, they don’t even notice me because they are on their freaking phones! Thank goodness you guys didn’t get whiplashed from such mindlessness! Doesn’t that just bites your butt? 😑😠🀬

  16. Honey Dawn, God knew just how to get my attention at that moment. I don’t know how long I was driving that day, unaware that I was driving. It rattles my nerves to this day thinking about “what if?” 😣

  18. We’re working on a long list of home projects, but they’re getting checked off one by one (even at a snail’s pace). πŸ™‚ Maybe we’ll fit in a hike, we’ll see. But it’s always nice to have a loooong weekend!

  19. What a great post! Many a time, I’ve been walking down the street, deep in my thoughts and worries, only to realise I’ve walked too far, missed my turning, and have to turn around. Then I wonder what else I missed along the way. Did I cross that road safely? I remember crossing the road. I did it safely. But why didn’t I recognise that THAT was where I should have turned?! Talk about MindFULL. Powering away on auto-pilot. Have a great day, lovely Kym. x
