Mood Swing

There are some days when I feel like a log or a stick stuck in the mud because I’ve overexerted myself and need to take a break. Sometimes, it’s hard to simply relax and do nothing. Yet, I try to find something relaxing to engage in, like reading a book, decorating, sewing, crocheting, or listening to music. I think we all need to give ourselves permission to take a chill pill, tell everyone you’re taking the day or weekend off, that’s if you don’t have to work, and do whatever you want to do, whether it’s to go visit a spa, try a new restaurant, take a drive, visit a museum or gallery, and even check out a botanical garden or a garden nursery just to walk around and clear your head.

So what if it’s raining outside? Well then, get your inner kid on, go outside, and dance and sing in the rain like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers! For those of you unfamiliar with who Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are, they were dance partners in films from 1933 to 1939. If neighbors look at you like you’re going crazy dancing in the rain, just wave at them and continue dancing and singing. Maybe they will come outside and dance too. Your mood can be contagious, whether good or not.

Sometimes we get so bogged down in stuff (adult craziness) that we often cast our feelings and needs on the back burner and feel grumpy inside even if we try not to show it. Think of all the mental and health benefits you can take advantage of when you think about untethering yourself with other people’s issues and focusing on you for a change.

There is always a reason to be happy, so find it! And don’t feel guilty about it either. Here’s a little get-up and go to help get your mood-a-swinging, with Happy by Pharrell Williams! Have a FANtabulous day y’all!

  1. I remember I used to feel guilty when I needed to take care of me, and then all of a sudden I dared anyone to get in my way fro doing me. We HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF US!
Now I’m sitting here dancing as I type this. Come on somebody…… we have church with this song!!!

  2. My sister and brother-in-law usually visit on Sunday. We go to the French market, walk a bit, maybe get some lunch or a drink. Last weekend was raining, but they still wanted to come over, and do you know what? I thoroughly enjoyed walking in the rain. It was a great day that ended with hot drinks. i had a chai and thought, “We should do this more often.”

Thank you for reminding us to live like we did in younger years.

  3. I agree! Today, I couldn’t stand being at home anymore and doing the usual things, so I told my husband I was going to town because I needed a break. (He had also been driving me crazy all morning.) And today was the anniversary of my mother’s death, so I was feeling very sad and cranky. Since I couldn’t visit my mother’s grave, I visited the local cemetery and explored the older section. I prayed for my dead relatives and the people in the cemetery and felt better afterwards. It sounds crazy, but it reminded me of how we are all connected and end up in the same way. I also asked God to take care of a loved one who’s been a real jerk to me. I feel no ill will towards this person. I know he’s screwed up in the head, and I just want him to be happy and safe. I try to always be mindful of what other people are going through. And, dear Kym, I’m glad you and your family are safe after the horrendous storm!

  4. Oh yes Sadje. You’re so right about that. Sometimes we get so bogged down with other people’s stuff until we don’t know what happened or how we got there. Excellent point! Thank you! πŸ€—πŸ™πŸΌπŸ˜Š

  7. Oh my gosh Victoria, that “voice” speaks to us more than we listen to it. I am so happy that this resonated with you my friend. πŸ’– Thanks so much for your kind words! Cheers to a wonderful week ahead! πŸ₯°πŸ₯‚πŸ˜

  8. From what I am hearing about Helene’s impact on North Carolina, I think you were lucky to be in Charlotte. When I passed through the airport on Saturday, that part of the state looked normal. Poor Asheville didn’t do as well. We’ll br dancing in the rain if we don’t get blown or washed away.β˜”πŸŒͺ️⚑🌊

  9. Honey Rosaliene, I had to regurgitate the craziness from this past week. 😝 So when I thought about this song, which was one of my favorites from my Zumba class back in the day, it lit a fire in me that I couldn’t put out! πŸ”₯πŸŽΆπŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ I just hit replay repeatedly! 11. Oh wow Mary, how awesome! Girl, now that was a wonderful mood swing my friend. Yes, I agree with you, you have to turn some things loose, and cut some of those strings trying to make you perform like a marionette under someone else influence. Good for you and I agree, you must do that more often! Love this and cheers to FUN! β˜•πŸ™†πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ’–

  13. Bless you Dawn and I don’t see anything wrong with embracing a little nostalgia, even if it is in remembrance of our loved ones at a cemetery. πŸ™πŸΌ I can connect with your memories about your mother and I feel the same way when the day my mom passed away rolls around each year.

Sometimes, we have to just get up and go, even though we may not have a clue where we’re going, we just know we need a change of scenery! Honey, I get it. And girlfriend, my husband can work a nerve too, so a drive works well for me to get my bearings, if you know what I mean! 😜

But we have to take more frequent mental health days to avoid going bonkers! It’s safe for us, and honey, it’s safe for others! 🀣😲😝 Have a FANtabulous week my friend. πŸ’

  14. Oh Pat, we were sitting here watching the horror unfold in Asheville and I was blown away that this occurred in the mountains but not in our coastal cities and towns. πŸŒŠπŸ—»πŸ  Homes were floating by in the floods, leaving people helpless. These weather conditions are getting scarier and scarier! But until the next storm, dance your behind off in the rain…and be HAPPY Miz Pat! πŸ˜πŸ’–πŸ˜πŸ₯‚πŸ₯³

  18. Within the rain, underneath the mud, lies the moments we so often blinded, by the craziness of life! But, even in those moments, our heart and soul can rise and above it, to let our spirit reign! Blessings! πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ½

  19. Yes, bring on the positive mood swings. What a great post! I love that you included visiting a botanical garden or garden nursery. And dancing in the rain. Nature baby!!
Shameless personal ad: Through my art, I bring the healing power of nature into homes.
Nature is absolutely amazing. It’s all around us, we should take advantage of it more often. xo

  21. Love this delightful post, dear Kym. I can’t think of a better way to get rid of those “moody” blues than putting on your dancing shoes. Something about your body and mind working together to get rid of the crazy and just relax! Nothing works better for me … even with aging, swollen joints and two left feet!

  22. LOL sistah Dora, you have me in stitches! 🀣 But I agree, put on your dancing shoes or just go bare footed and let the music take you away! It is indeed relaxing regardless of the tempo! Keep dancing my friend. πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ˜
