From a Different Angle

Sometimes, from where you’re standing, things may look like they aren’t working out at all. Perhaps, you need to shift your position, look at it from a different angle, and see that they are actually aligning perfectly.

We tend to look toward the grandiose as the big target to pursue, and should we fall short with great disappointment, the air in our balloon seems to evaporate rapidly. Like Goldilocks in the famed children’s fairytale, “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” there could be goals that are far too big, some that may be too small, or those that are just right and perfect for what you need. It could be all in the way you look at it, and how you approach the possibilities.

Naked Emotions

“You cannot make yourself feel something you do not feel, but you can make yourself do right in spite of your feelings.”
-Pearl S. Buck

There is so much that rattles our senses and boggles our spirit, which we may have no control over it. There are moments when you feel emotionally drained and stripped of any outside protection and left on display for the world to ogle at. Sometimes, as I hear about the day-to-day tragedies, devastations, and violence, I often wonder if society as a whole is becoming more desensitized. Or are we simply emotionally defunct?

Every week I hear about the death of someone I know, whether a friend or family member that simply makes my heart ache. I continue to examine my life, trying to stay as laser-focused as possible, to be a good steward, and to project an increasing flow of agape love to permeate through every trajectory of my life.

Do some of us really wear our hearts on our sleeves? Everyday life has new meaning, with a new purpose and deeper understanding. Sometimes I feel like I’m exposed to the emotional elements of the world, butt naked and standing with an awkward sense of insecurity, unlike Lady Godiva. To feel is a major part of our makeup. When we suppress the lifeline of our emotions, it’s like a slow-motion stab wound severing our compassion.

“We destroy ourselves when we stop feeling. If you bury your feelings within you, you become a graveyard.” –Bernie S. Siegel

Law of the Garbage Truck

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were

driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a

parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his

brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of

the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really

friendly. So I asked, ‘Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined

your car and sent us to the hospital! ‘This is when my taxi driver

taught me what I now call, ‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run

around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of

disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it

and sometimes they’ll dump it on you. Don’t take it personally. Just

smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and

spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The

bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets,

so…Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don’t.

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Have a garbage-free day!

👉🏼 Short, Sweet, Savory, and Serious

Life is precious and when it’s over, it’s over. It is what it is. We don’t want to stand or sit here and think about the time we wasted on silliness and foolishness. Our clock continues to tick. We can’t erase past or present mistakes. We can only learn from the takeaways of those lessons and add value to the life we have yet to live.

Don’t Think About Starting a Fight!

I’m not even trying to go there, so don’t think about starting a fight because you won’t win…that’s of course, unless you are fighting yourself. Then have at it.

I know many of you have faced and probably will face predicaments where it feels like you’ve been thrown into a fighting ring, and you don’t know who, why, or what you are wrestling, boxing, or kickboxing with. Look yall, people try to lure you into a fight that you weren’t looking to participate in because you didn’t sign up to fight. You were simply minding your own business right?

I realize that somehow, even as you try to steer clear of unnecessary confrontations, someone targets you for their bullish reasons and narcissistic attitudes just to throw you off of your game. Such individuals want to pick a fight with you for some of the silliest reasons, no matter how peaceful of a creature you may be. Do I speak from experience? Yep, you betcha ya! That’s from decades of learning experiences I don’t discount, and from people, I would never have expected such behavior to come from. Yet, these are lessons that prepare me to be on the lookout for the tumultuous signs that pop up from time to time. I wonder why, but I don’t worry why. Neither should you.

Long story short…I’m not trying to pick a fight with anyone. So heed the warning…”Don’t start nothin’ it won’t be nothin’.”

What are You Hooking Your Jumper Cables up To?

Typically, jumper cables are used to connect a live battery to a dead one to give it the juice it needs to get the vehicle running again.

But what about your internal battery? When you feel listless, uninspired, or useless what do you connect your jumper cables to that will juice you up, energize your battery and get you restarted and on your way? How do you recharge to get going again? Here’s the thing, all of us get to a point or many points where it seems like we have reached a dead end or probably stalled on the road to achieving something, even if it is simply choosing peace of mind.

Each of us responds differently to various stimuli that will get our batteries recharged. Whatever influences you to get cranked up and get going, as long as it isn’t something that will negatively affect your mind, body, and spirit, don’t just sit there, get up and get make it happen! Time waits for no one. Have a FANtabulous and productive day!

Be Careful How You Use Old Fogey! 🤨

As many of you know, The Masked Singer is one of my favorite television shows since its inception. A few days ago, I watched the new season of the show and oh my gosh, all of the season’s beginning performers were outstanding. There was a particular singer who was formerly known as the Gnome but whose voice sounded familiar. I could tell his voice was seasoned, a veteran singer you know? But I guessed wrong about who the singer was.

Well, this singer was sadly sent home, but when his identity was revealed, I literally cried. That singer, formerly known as the Gnome was none other than 97-year-old, Dick Van Dyke! I was in shock at how amazing this man still looked at age 97. He still has a full head of white hair, and even though he now dons a white beard to match, this handsome entertainer still has it. He performed one last time before the show ended that night, singing ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ and even did a little dance. And another thing, I was simply in awe by the incredible details in the costume the designers made for him.

I find inspiration or a kick in the butt moment when something or someone gets my adrenaline flowing. I am encouraged by those who succeed against all odds. The older I get, I also find that in spite of what others think or feel about our aging population, we have so much to learn from them, even when it seems like they are at the end of their rope and have nothing more to give. Pay attention, because there is so much more you can learn.

“It matters not how long we live but how.” – Philip James Bailey

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. – Henry Ford
