Like driving on an open road or through a winding mountainside, we run into some twists, curves, ascensions, abrupt stops, and descensions that make us shift gears in order to navigate safely in our travels.
Shifting the Gears of Life
Life is like putting a vehicle in traveling gear
the direction we’re headed is not always clear
but as we navigate on the path ahead
we shift to drive meandering to our homestead
it may be necessary to put our gear in park
to sit and contemplate before heading towards our mark
we must shift in reverse if we passed by our turn
staying focused on our path towards the destiny we yearn
and when we come to the crossroads of uncertainty
we mock time as we pause, then shift into quiet serenity
park it, reverse it, drive it or put it in neutral
your journey is your life that’s quite evolutional.

WOW…you know your e.e. cummings! I never read that one. Thanks for sharing the words from a great poet! Did you memorize this? π

I didn’t memorize it, i remembered some of it… (remembered part of it word for word)…and copied the poem from a Google of the remembered parts. π

What a great analogy for life. I love the idea of gears that speed us up slow us down and even hold us back at times. A great poem for the new year!

We travel a long and crooked road, my friend. Lots of shifting is necessary to keep from going off the deep end!
