Β Β Β Β Writing. We compose oodles of posts each week but eventually discover that we become burned out from writing, reading, and “thinking” about what to write daily. Sitting at our computers or perched somewhere with our smartphones for hours on end, can distract us from checking our internal engine light to make sure our physical and writing faculties are operating at full capacity. Such burnout is evident on the blogging platform because we writers tend to put “undue” pressure on ourselves by posting something every day, even multiple times a day.
Β Β Β Let’s face it, we all have a life, right? I’ve seen the disappearance of many people I was once connected to who no longer blog or haven’t blogged in years. For whatever their reasons for suddenly stopping or deleting their site completely, a few people I’ve communicated with indicate that they were just burned out and no longer have time, the desire, or energy to devote to writing a post for a blog. Getting started is an exciting endeavor, and having other writers interact with your compositions is indeed exhilarating. You gain confidence, and that energizes you to continue to improve and expand your writing repertoire.
Β Β Β Β There is no need to apologize for having to step away from your screens for a while. Let me tell ya, burnout is real. We must press the PAUSE or STOP button before we continue writing, and writing effectively. Trust me, you will know when your “check engine light” for your body flashes on because you will feel it!
Β Β Β Β How do we make our blogs complement what we do, whether it’s business or personal? While the blogging community is an excellent source of communication, camaraderie, and information, we have to be clear about what our blogging could lead or not lead us to in the long run. How do we make the things we write about an asset instead of a liability? Many of us have other projects we are in the process of developing, and devoting our time to. Sometimes it behooves us to step away and come back fresh, renewed, and alive to heighten our success on this platform.
Β Β Β Β You can call it a melt-down, a wipe-out, under-pressure, depression, lethargy, or overwhelm, but burnout is a “burn” out, no ifs, and’s, or buts about it! You will know when it is time to take a blogging siesta. Just don’t fight it, do it! This might not only apply to the practice of blogging but to other creative and professional endeavors too. You may never realize just how much you may need to take a break and then come back. Cheers! π₯
Dear Kym, I don’t know how you do it. But this is the blog I was looking forward to. Thanks to your post, I am going to post only a few times this month and…… The reason is my second book ” Bala: The short stories for children will be releasing at the end of this month or by first of August. I will be busy in its promotion. β₯οΈβ₯οΈβ₯οΈβ₯οΈβ₯οΈ

Oh my goodness Emmanuella, good for you my friend. I noticed this time and time again through the years that people try to do so much in a short span of time. It’s like an addiction. But I applaud you for recognizing that you needed a mental, spiritual and physical break. Good for you! π€©ππ½π

I know what you mean Aparna. I’ve been blogging on this site since 2009, but not with much direction, until I began working in the marketing department for my job, where I began understanding the aesthetics of content marketing. It is indeed a good avenue for a wide variety of topics. I am grateful for our connection my friend. πππππ₯°

Yes burn out is real. I had to stop several times to get me together. So many goes on in one’s life that writing can take a back seat at times. I have seen people come and go. But we all at times need that mental break for sure.

I schedule my blog posts as a weekly task. That way it doesn’t feel like I’m ALWAYS blogging. But I need to cull some of my daily tasks – work out what really NEEDS to be done. I need to make some room for art making. π

Girlfriend, most of the time I schedule my blog posts and then sometimes I get something that occurred and inspired me suddenly, and I write that up to switch out instead. Yet, like you, I have to reevaluate my projects because there are some things that are beginning to require more of my immediate attention and I am going to have to scale back a bit on other things. But hey girlfriend, if your art is going to be a full-time business for you, then you are just going to have to modify your writing for a bit and pace yourself. It’s all about moderation. You got that magic touch to get it done! π₯³ Enjoy the rest of your week Sandra!!! π€π¨ππ₯π€©πΊππππ₯°ππ¦

Such a great post Kym! Like I said, I have no idea how y’all post everyday and some twice and thrice and then there are those that I just cannot read because it’s way too many times. Are you trying to tell us something? Are you going on a break?
Ok if you go.. I go. Poof… I’ll be back when you are… ππ I have my schedule pretty worked out with 2- mostly 3 times a week. With that said, I’m planning a hopeful trip for a week and I’ll take a week off of blogging. It’s soooo important like you said to give ourselves a break and hit reset.
Big hugs and love dawlink! ππ

Oh my dawwwlinnnkkkkkk, you are on point. We want to always be useful and productive, but now I understand why celebs like Michael Jackson and Prince said they couldn’t turn their brains off, because something would pop into their heads at any unexpected moment, which affected their health because they couldn’t sleep. So they had to take some type of stimulant to keep working. But, since I am not a celeb…LMBO…πππ…I have to find a safe and more effective way of learning to make the necessary adjustments and remember…Rome wasn’t built in a day! Oh Linnie, I am wholeheartedly wishing you well my friend. ππ½ππ½ππ½ There have been so many things that are rocking our world lately and we must find a way that will help us overcome these issues and not allow them to distract us in any way. I think I tried on several occasions to comment and follow your blog, but I couldn’t. When you feel like you are able to share yourself with your audience, we will be here. Many things in the news lately has contributed to trying to rob us of our oxygen and it is a challenge to try to stay in a positive state. I believe in you my friend. Take some time to recharge. Even if you have to try something different for a change, just do it. You never know what could be your gamechanger. Sending you much love. Continue to stay encouraged, even if you don’t feel it. Oh, thank you so much for this trUTHful post, Kym!π―I had been working tirelessly for almost two years. When I took my little siesta, I was on a 755 day streak and I was proud of that. I even fought the urge to rest because I felt I’d be letting my readers down. But then I thought about my self-care posts and it occurred to me, “Why am I advising self-care when I haven’t been taking very good care of myself lately?” That’s when I decided to step back from blogging for a few weeks. Then, my husband got sick and I realized that if I didn’t slow down, it could be me lying in that hospital. Thank you so much for the wonderful post, sweetie! I will definitely be taking many more siestas! ππππ€π€π€

I am so there with you Dawn. I think we put more pressure on ourselves than we probably should. I can now understand when during interviews, entertainers like Michael Jackson and Prince would say they couldn’t turn their brains off, thus they couldn’t sleep. While they were continuously creating it was taking a tremendous toll on their bodies. We too have to heed those warning signs and know when and how to take a break, as long as we need to! Thanks girlfriend. πππ₯°
