There’s a Choice We’re Making…We Can Save Lives! πŸŒŽ

I can’t believe it has been 39 years since a star-studded group of performers came together as “one” for a charitable cause with a global humanitarian purpose. The song “We Are the World” was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian.

The message behind this Grammy Award for Record of the Year is more profound and relevant today than when these award-winning artists came together to send this message out to the world in 1985. You may recognize many of the faces of those who were young and are no longer with us in the video. Yet, the message remains. We can make a difference if we choose to. Thank you.

  1. Girl, I didn’t see it on Netflix, but I saw it previously and you are so right it was not an easy feat by no means. That’s why I appreciate the effort and purpose behind the making of that song. Lionel Richie had me dying laughing when he talked about how nervous he was at Michael’s house while Michael’s boa constrictor was roaming free! 😲 Hilarious, but I would have felt the same way too! πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

  2. I have heard that song many times over the decades, but I don’t think I’ve watched the video since it came out. What an amazing collection of artists that got together for this! Some I can’t even remember their names any more πŸ™‚ It’s so sad though, that it is as relevant today as it was then. Maggie

  3. Oh I agree with you Maggie. When this song came out in ’85, to see the video and hear the song was emotional. This is a great example of what we can get accomplished, if we work together and are on the same page! πŸ‘πŸΌ Thanks so much my friend. πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸΌπŸ’–

  4. I can never hear this song enough of our great performers before life got off track and some are no longer with us. It seems so easy and it could and though, but, when already! Amazing voices~πŸ’“

  5. What an event that was! Nice to look back on this and forward with hope for the future. Praying I’m doing my part as you are with God’s help! Can we still make a difference with the world the mess it’s in? As you say, “if we choose to.” A positive note to begin and end this day on. πŸ™πŸ½πŸ₯°πŸ€—

  7. that was such a time; do they know it’s christmas, tears are not enough, and yes we are the world….you realize how good these singers were/are…..it’s hard to not be teary eyed when hearing those words…..and when Minny Riperton sang that at Jackson’s funeral….along with Black and White, the man knew how to make a statement….

  8. Oh my dear Dora, we still have hope don’t we? I think we are doing the work and serving our purpose as God designed. Now, we won’t get it right always, but I believe we are putting our hearts into making our neck of the planet as good as we can. A small contribution can make a big difference, which we see evident in this video. Everyone played a small part in making a huge difference. Thanks for your encouraging words sistah girlfriend. πŸ€—πŸ’–πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸΌπŸ₯°

  9. Awwww, thanks so much Michele my Belle for your sweet introspect. No, it doesn’t seem like much has changed, but you know what? We will continue to try to do our small part that can make a positive difference in at least one life. I think we are well on our way my Dancing Queen! πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ’–πŸŽΆπŸ™πŸΌπŸ’ƒπŸ½

  10. AMEN to that Brotha Warren. Actually, as I reflect on much of Michael’s music, especially in his later years of recording, his message in those songs were profound. Check out this song if you haven’t heard it yet and bring out a box of Kleenex! 😭

  13. A powerful song at the time, I recall. We need something like this today, to help get our world leaders together on the important things like, yeah, famine, but also wars, disease, poverty….

  17. Still a relevant song, with some of my favourite artist. My part time job in the evening is in an office setting, and because of my vast music collection, I’ve been the office DJ for the past 10 years. I’ve already played, we are the world, a couple times this year!

  18. Maxx, you have delivered a mouthful my friend. I agree will all of your points. Michael and Lionel delivered an anthem that was eloquently done and in such a short timeframe too. This song needs to be put on autoplay…non-stop Bro’man! πŸ€—πŸ’–πŸ˜˜πŸ™πŸΌπŸ˜Š

  21. WOW Warren, Mr. DJ in the house! πŸŽ§πŸŽΆπŸ”Š I agree with you that this song and it’s message is just as relevant today as it was when it was first recorded. As I look at the vast variety of artists who were there to put it all together, I am truly impressed by the short amount of time they got all of this done! Happy Father’s Day my friend! πŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ˜
