Unimaginable Devastation

Tornado Destruction, Disasters

Devastation. We see it and hear about it all the time. It’s hard to predict what your state of mind would be in the midst of a devastating event. When you face some form of devastation, whether it’s due to the sudden loss of someone you love dearly, caught in the crossfire of a violent attack, sexually abused, personal destruction caused by natural disasters or manmade disasters, you don’t realize the magnitude of the toll it takes on one’s mind, spirit and body. Destruction has hit your safe zone, leaving you intensely stressed followed by sheer exhaustion.

We show compassion by praying or assisting in some way to ease the burden, but the damage has been done and the image is stamped into the molecules of our memory for a very long time. In reality, while we want to roll over and avoid dealing with the pain and suffering of our unimaginable devastating circumstances, we realize we can’t, especially when we may have others depending on our strength.

When many people have not toiled through the emotional, mental or spiritual rollercoaster of devastation, their level of sensitivity tends to wane to incomprehension and complicity. The storms we experience in our lives are no doubt challenging and the pain can run unbelievably deep. Yet somehow, one day, light pierces through the dark clouds of those treacherous storms, giving us a sense of renewed hope, because we survived and lived to see the dawning of a brand new day. 🙂
