Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward All Men

Linnaea Mallette, Peace On Earth

How often do we find ourselves echoing this phrase “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men” especially during this time of the year and actually mean it once it’s said? We look at the news in whatever format we choose and we see what seems like never-ending chaos, violence, destruction, terrorism, inhumanity, and abuse splashed and heightened in horrifying and mortifying ways.

On the other hand, there is a reassuring witness of new humanitarian efforts that change and inspire the lives of others who embrace the gifts of love, joy, and hope. Do we believe in our wishes of peace when we are conflicted – that war within us of which we cannot substitute peace because falsehoods and deception are embedded in it?

Where is our joy? Where is our goodwill? How could we possibly recognize peace and goodwill during a specified holiday if we do not embody that in our spirit and hearts naturally all through the year?
