Law of the Garbage Truck

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were

driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a

parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his

brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of

the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really

friendly. So I asked, ‘Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined

your car and sent us to the hospital! ‘This is when my taxi driver

taught me what I now call, ‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run

around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of

disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it

and sometimes they’ll dump it on you. Don’t take it personally. Just

smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and

spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The

bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets,

so…Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don’t.

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Have a garbage-free day!

  1. People often say “don’t take it personally”, but this story is so vivid and compelling, and suddenly it isn’t impersonal, judgy advise but wisdom I can carry in my heart and mind! Thank you!

  4. Really good one. 😀 🙂
Mostly garbage in a garbage truck are very most back and away from the steering wheel – many other vehicles, the trash is located immediately (too closely) behind the steering wheel. 😀 😀 😀

  7. Excellent story! However, I wonder how he would have reacted if the other car had hit you guys and sent you all to the hospital or even killed someone. As a general rule, however, it’s the right response.

  10. Girl Dawn, sometimes getting all bent out of shape would have only escalated the situation. You know girl, I am so glad that I have grown up, not just physically, but mentally and spiritually. I probably would not have responded in such a civil manner several years ago! 😲

  11. Elvira, girlfriend, I don’t know whether I will be drinking something smooth and relaxing like my hot tea. Or….I may pick my poison for wine or a malt beverage! Either way my friend, it’s going to be a relaxing one! 😴 Enjoy whatever floats your boat for relaxation my dear!!! ⛵😘☕🤗🥂😍💎💐

  12. Girl Dawn, I can understand what you mean. But honey, everyone is doing all kinds of crazy things behind the wheel, except for driving. I just try to take a deep breath while I am behind the wheel. I have seen what happens when things escalate from vehicular confrontations! EEK! 🚗🚛🚙 Have a fab weekend my friend! 😍

  13. Yes! “Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.” Such an important message. This is why I always forgive a waitress or cashier if they are short with me or even rude. I have no idea why they are filled with garbage, but I refuse to carry some of it with me. I often say “I sure hope your day gets better.”

  14. Girlfriend, there you go. Perfect answer. I too try to give them a pass and compliment them on something that will make them smile. I have enough of my own trash to deal with and I don’t need someone else’s dump truck to make my load any heavier! 🤜🏼🤛🏼 Thanks Bridgette. 😍 Have a fantastic day! 🌞
